SPECIAL POLITICAL AND DECOLONIZATION COMMITTEE
AGENDA ITEM I : COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF THE DISPUTE ON EAST TURKESTAN AND THE STATUS OF UYGHURS IN THE REGION
AGENDA ITEM II : DISCUSSION ON YHE IMPACT AND RESPONSE TO REFUGEE INFLUXES INTO EUROPE
A territory roiling with unrest, East Turkistan serves as a sobering reminder of the persistent contradictions between autonomy and sovereignty. With everyone on edge, the conflict between China and the Uyghur people has the potential to blow up in a way that has never been seen before, drawing in international attention. To tackle this urgent matter, the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (SPECPOL) has been constituted. The challenge for the delegates will be to navigate an intricate geopolitical environment where national security, cultural preservation, and human rights all intersect. The committee will investigate the core of the dispute,
looking at its historical foundations, current expressions, and possible paths to settlement.
From the allegations of cultural suppression and human rights abuses to the Chinese government’s claims of counterterrorism efforts, delegates will be confronted with a multifaceted challenge. The committee must grapple with the delicate balance between upholding international norms and respecting the sovereignty of nations.
Will SPECPOL succeed in extinguishing the flames of discord, or will the dispute in East Turkistan continue to smolder, threatening regional stability and global peace? The fate of millions hangs in the balance.
