DISEC (Disarmament and International Security) is the first committee of the United Nations General Assembly. The First Committee meets every year in October for a 4–5-week session, after the General Assembly General Debate. All 193 member states of the UN can attend. It is the only main committee of the General Assembly entitled to verbatim records. The committee discusses issues related to nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction, regional disarmament, and other security issues.
